This concept of cooling is similar to that which is used at home using a split or window air conditioner. The difference lies in the fact that the equipment used is higher in their capacities.

Besides, the air conditioning system offers flexibility to control the amount of chilled air depending upon the temperature of the space to be cooled across the manufacturing plant. Types
There are two types of central air conditioning systems: Direct expansion type and Chilled water type.
Direct expansion type: This model suits small-sized manufacturing plants. It houses the compressor and condenser in one room, and expansion valve and air handling unit in another room. A big blower attached to the air handling unit absorbs the hot air from the manufacturing plant and blows it across the cooling coil. The cooled air is distributed to areas to be cooled via the ducts. This model is also called DX central air conditioning plant.
Chilled water type: This model suits big sized manufacturing plants and spaces with multiple floors. In this type, all four components are accommodated in a plant house. A shell and tube evaporator is present in this type. It takes in chilled Freon fluid from the tube side while brine solution flows from the shell side. The chilled brine solution is sent to different air conditioning units located all across the space to be cooled and in the various floors of the building. The blower in the air handling unit takes in from room ducts and transfers it to the cooling coil. This cool air is supplied back to the rooms through ducts. The heat of the room air gets transferred to brine which returns it to the evaporator. The brine is chilled and is pumped back to the air handling unit.
